About the WSES PTA

Who are we?

The Walnut Springs Parent Teacher Association is made up of parents, teachers, families, and community members who care about our school. We are affiliated with Texas PTA which is in turn affiliated with the National PTA organization. Our PTA organizes and sponsors many events at our school, keeps you informed of what is happening, and provides support for teachers, educational resources, and new technology. Our PTA is run by a dedicated group of volunteers, who are guided by our volunteer Executive Board. We welcome you to become a member of our PTA and encourage you to get involved by attending meetings and volunteering as much or little time as you'd like.

Why Join the PTA?

The number one reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. There are many benefits to joining the WSES PTA:

  • The PTA works hard to keep you informed of what is happening at WSES with a frequently updated website, a monthly calendar of events, weekly e-blasts and informational handouts.

  • PTA sponsored programs are great opportunities to meet other parents and to build relationships and discuss issues that are on your mind. You can share ideas, concerns, and experiences.

  • The PTA plays an important role in supporting and encouraging the WSES teachers.  In addition, PTA-organized fundraising provides the finanacial support needed for facility improvements, new technology, educational resources, programs and more.

What am I committing to if I join the PTA?

There are no volunteer requirements when you join the PTA.  Any level of involvment is appreciated whether it's in the classroom, at a school program, in the workroom or sending cookies for the Cookie Exchange at Christmas.  Every little bit helps!

Who can join the PTA & how to do it?

We love to have as much PTA support as possible!!  Parents, teachers, grandparents, aunts, uncles community members and more can join our PTA.  Join the PTA here!

What happens at a PTA meeting?  Who attends the meetings?

No one is required to attend a PTA Meeting, but everyone is welcome!  We typically have 5 general PTA meetings each year at WSES.  We offer different speakers, Q & A sessions with the principal, updates on fundraisers and programs, and discuss any new business or questions from PTA members.  Everyone is encouraged to attend. The next general PTA meeting is September 20, at 8:00 am in The Center.

Can I choose the type and level of volunteering that I do?

With more than 700 students at WSES, there are tons of areas where help is needed. We want you to contribute in the area that you are most comfortable and that works best with your schedule. Whether you have 5 minutes or 2 hours, or want to help in the school or at home, there is always something that needs to be done.  Visit the Volunteer page to see a list of different volunteer opportunties. You can also always email our volunteer coordinator at wsesvolunteers@gmail.com if you have any questions.
